The talk focuses on the life and legacy of Santiago Roth (1850–1924), a Swiss-born naturalist that discovered many fossils of extinct mammals in Argentina. The Department of Palaeontology UZH houses a large collection of these animals, some of them are exhibited in our Natural History Museum, e.g. the giant ground sloth skeleton, or armadillo-like glyptodonts. We will talk about our recent efforts to study and digitize this collection and we will explain what makes these animals remarkable.
