Module Booking

What are the deadlines for the booking of modules?

The module booking for the autumn semester starts around the 2nd week of August. You can book modules for the spring semester from the 2nd week in January. The exact dates for registration and deregistration are listed in the online course catalogue for every module.

For normal, full-semester courses, the registration deadline is usually the Sunday of the 3rd week of the lecture period. You can deregister until the Sunday of the 10th week of the lecture period. Special deadlines apply for other modules.

Please note: For some modules there is an early registration deadline on the Sunday one week before the start of the course. Please check the online course catalogue in good time for the exact registration and deregistration dates of the modules you wish to attend. The published deadlines for enrolment and deregistration are binding.

The deadlines for booking biology block courses can be found on the homepage of the Institute of Biology.

For modules that cannot be booked online, the online course catalogue shows how and where you can register.

I cannot book certain modules. What is the reason for this and what should I do?

Check the individual booking deadlines in the course catalog. They are listed for each module under the tab “Organization”. The deadlines may vary depending on the module. If the deadline has already passed, contact the module coordinator and your study coordinator and ask them whether manual booking is possible.

My modules from the major and minor programs overlap. What should I do?

The first year of the Bachelor's programs is already largely filled with compulsory modules from the major programm. It is therefore recommended begin with the minor programm in the 2nd year of your studies.

My major is at Faculty of Economics and I cannot not book any modules of my MNF minor. Why is that?

Students who have earned fewer than 45 ECTS credits at the assessment level may not yet book any modules at the advanced level or the minor study program. https://www.oec.uzh.ch/de/studies/assessment.html

I would like to attend a lecture at ETH Zurich, what should I do?

If you need to attend courses at ETH Zurich, you must enroll at ETH as a subject student (Fachstudent). You can do this online at www.mystudies.ethz.ch. Your enrolment is valid for one semester. You will then be able to access the ETH system, attend courses and register for examinations. Students who have booked biology block courses via the joint UZH/ETHZ system must also enroll at the ETH once the courses have been definitively assigned and then register for them online. The enrolment is free of charge for students of the University of Zurich. Deadline for enrolment is by the end of the second week of the lecture period. You will find further information on the ETH website at www.mystudies.ethz.ch.

If you have been correctly enrolled as a subject student with ETH Zurich, the results of the courses you have taken there will be sent to the University of Zurich automatically. Once the grades have been released by the ETH, it will take a few days for the results to appear in your online transcript of records.

I want to attend a course at the Language Center of the University and the ETH Zurich. What should I do?

In principle, ECTS credits from language courses at the Language Centre can be credited in the elective area of Bachelor's and Master's degree programmes. The number of ECTS credits varies from subject to subject. You can find the relevant information in the relevant subject guides (Wegeleitungen). The study coordinators can also provide information. The grades for your language courses are automatically recorded and will be visible in your online transcript of records within a few days.
