If you have failed a compulsory module in one of your study programs (major and/or minor) twice, you will be excluded from all study programs in which the module in question is a compulsory module. Furthermore, there is an equivalence list in the appendix to the general part of the study regulations with modules that are equivalent in terms of failed attempts. You will also receive a subject exclusion in study programs in which an equivalent module is a compulsory module. The subject exclusion comes into force at the next semester enrollment. You must then change your program when you enroll, otherwise you will be exmatriculated by the university. Until the next possible semester enrollment, you can complete your booked modules, including those of your new study program, under your old enrollment. You will first see the subject exclusion in the Student Portal. This will happen either at the beginning of March, mid-July or at the beginning of October. The legally binding document is the Transcript of Records, which you will receive twice a year via the Student Portal. Based on this document, you can submit a written appeal against the exclusion to the Office of Student Affairs. If you do not do this, you will receive an exclusion order from the university 40 days after the Transcript of Records is delivered in the Student Portal and then the study ban from the program will be final.
According to the information on legal appeals on the transcript of records, you have 30 days after receiving the Transcript of Records to submit a written objection to the Office of Student Affairs. If the objection is rejected, you have another 30 days after receiving the answer to submit an appeal to the Appeals Commission of the Zurich Universities. Objections and appeals have a deferred effect. You can therefore continue to attend modules and take examinations during this period.
