Reto Dorta, Assistant Professor (Alfred Werner Foundation) of Organometallic Chemistry, received the Werner Prize 2010.
Peter K. Endress, Professor Emeritus of Systematic Botanics, received the 2010 David Fairchild Medal for Plant Exploration from America’s National Tropical Botanical Garden. He also received an honorary doctorate from Freie Universität Berlin.
Ian Frew, SNSF Assistant Professor of Physiology, received an ERC Starting Grant for his project “Molecular mechanisms underlying control of renal epithelial proliferative homeostasis.”
Richard Hahnloser, Full Professor of Neuroinformatics, received an ERC Advance Grant for his project “Vocal template computations in the songbird brain.”
Heinz Heimgartner, Professor Emeritus of Organic Chemistry, was awarded the title “Professor Honoris Causa” by the University of St. Petersburg.
Michael O. Hengartner, Full Professor of Molecular Biology, won the UZH Teaching Award 2010.
Giacomo Indiveri, Assistant Professor of Neuroinformatics, received an ERC Starting Grant for his project “Neuromorphic processors: event-based VLSI models of cortical circuits for brain-inspired computation.”
Alexander Kish, Postdoctoral research assistant at the Department of Physics, won the CHIPP Prize 2010 for the best PhD thesis in physics in Switzerland.
Andreas Plückthun, Full Professor of Biochemistry, received an ERC Advanced Grant for his project “General light-triggered switches and sensors for studying proteins inside the cell.”
Ataman Sendöl, Postdoctoral research assisant at the Institute for Molecular Biology, received the Science GE Healthcare Prize for the best PhD thesis in molecular biology in Europe.
Roland K. O. Sigel, Associate Professor of Chemistry, specializing in bioanorganic chemistry, received an ERC Starting Grant for this project “MIRNA — Metal Ions and Metal Ion Complexes Guiding Folding and Function of Single RNA Molecules.”
Takashi Tsuchimatsu, Postdoctoral research assistant at the Department of Plant Biology, received the Walter M. Fitch Prize from the Society of Molecular Biology and Evolution.
Rüdiger Wehner, Professor Emeritus of Zoology, specializing in physiology, was awarded a Silver Medal from Eberhard Karls University, Tübingen, Germany.
